Answering the Call Within
How Listening to Your Inner Voice Can Guide You to Authentic Choices
What is stirring within you? A loaded question if there ever was one. There is always so Much beneath the surface, so much Inner Movement. How often do we take the time to Listen?
The more we ignore our Inner Movement, the louder it becomes. It starts to move and shake, groan and growl. What is your Thing? the Thing that rustles your whole being every once in a while, not often enough I’m consumed by it, but enough that it terrifies me from going into my wild?
As we stir, experience that Inner Movement, it can be tempting to shush it, to try to quell it. This is a form of self-betrayal. When our Bodies communicate through a stirring, we are being called to turn towards our Selves. We are being called to venture into our Wild.
In our Wild, we find our Authenticity and through this authenticity, we make decisions for our life.
My goal for every person I work with is that they Become able to make the most Authentic decisions for Themselves. I constantly aspire to work myself out a job, so that the clients I work with make decisions that are Good for them and reflect their unique values. In order to make the most Authentic choices, we first need to Know what our Authenticity is.
And authentic choices cannot be made in Fear.
For the most Authentic choices, we need to be present with our Selves. We are unable to make Authentic choices when we are afraid, because we are not present with our Selves. When we are doused in Fear, we are not connected with the Essence of who we are. Our brain body system becomes solely focused on Survival, physical or emotional Survival, that we can lose sight of our Priorities, our Values.
When our nervous system takes over with the fight-flight-freeze response, we get lost in the tunnel vision of fear. Our behaviour in a trauma response does not define us. When our Bodies perceive threat, whether emotional or physical, real or imagined, our brain body system flips the switch from growth to protection mode. In this state of alarm, our values are clouded by fear. People may say they are called to love everyone but their (in)actions are demonstrative of fear of the unknown, of difference.
Fear, like any emotion, is an important messenger. It is up to us to interpret the purpose of Fear, without allowing fear to make decisions. We need to extend space between a situation and our response to connect back with our Selves. In order to notice when we are afraid, we have to notice the opposite: when we are connected to our Selves. We make the most authentic choices when we are in dialogue with our Selves, others and the world. We make the most authentic choices when we are Responding, rather than Reacting.
What decisions are you being asked to make, as you venture into your Wild?
